Mutual Aid: Breaking Down the Philanthropic Binary

This session will take fundraisers out of the binary philanthropist/fundraiser model to examine how community partnerships, community giving, resource exchanges, and mutually beneficial volunteerism can make transformational differences for charities – especially those supporting the under-served and under-represented.

We will be examining mutual aid through a queer and Indigenous lens with a panel of experts from queer and Indigenous organizations in Tkaronto.

Our conversation is designed to not only challenge traditional philanthropic norms – and the power imbalances inherent within them – but give fundraisers ideas on how to build fundraising models that don’t just benefit community, but truly and meaningfully include community.
